The Blueberry Patch

In 2024, WNC AgOptions awarded our farm a grant to start a U-Pick Blueberry operation on our farm. In part of a field at the May Place, just below The Beef Barn, we will eventually plant a total of 200 blueberry plants. In February 2024 we planted 20 Tifblue, 10 Powderblue, 30 Premier, 10 Columbus, 20 Ochlockonee, 20 Alapaha, and 10 Vernon blueberry plants. In 2025 we hope to be open on a limited basis and work to increase the number of plants in the ground. Follow the progress of "The Blueberry Patch," as well as find out dates and times for picking on our Facebook Page!

Becoming Blueberry Farmers...

After receiving our grant funds we set to work prepping the ground and planting our blueberry plants. We had already performed a soil test and knew we needed to amend the soil because the pH was too high for blueberries. We plowed through the field with a subsoiler before tilling it. We then put pine mulch on the tilled ground to help lower the pH. We then tilled the mulch into the ground before drilling holes with an auger for our plants. After planting our blueberry plants, we put down more pine mulch as a bed for the plants and began installing our irrigation system. We are now able to transfer water from one of our other farms to keep our blueberries watered with our solar-powered irrigation system. We purchased our blueberry plants from Joyner Blueberry Farm in Belews Creek, NC and would recommend them to anyone buying blueberry plants.
